Inventory SEO checklist

A vehicle detail page should be crawlable, specific, current, and useful to a local shopper.

Search visibility starts with accurate inventory facts in readable HTML. A good vehicle page identifies the unit, shows useful photos and pricing context, links from browseable inventory, and provides a truthful next step.

Discover

Use crawlable links

Vehicle pages should be reachable from inventory and relevant category pages without relying only on search forms.

Understand

Put facts in HTML

Year, make, model, trim, price, mileage, location, and availability should be readable without an image.

Convert

Keep the next step truthful

Availability, contact, appointment, finance-interest, and trade-in actions must match actual configuration.

Technical and on-page checks

  • Return HTTP 200 only for a usable public vehicle page
  • Use one canonical URL and redirect avoidable duplicates
  • Write a unique title and description from accurate vehicle and dealer facts
  • Render essential facts and primary content server-side
  • Use descriptive image alt text and stable image URLs
  • Link back to inventory and to genuinely related category pages
  • Include appropriate vehicle/product structured data only when it matches visible content

Merchandising checks

  • Use clear original photos and a useful primary image
  • State price and mileage consistently
  • Describe equipment and condition without unsupported claims
  • Show the dealer name, location, hours, and contact path
  • Avoid blocking the page with aggressive popups or forms
  • Confirm mobile gallery, buttons, and forms with keyboard and touch testing

When a vehicle sells

Do not keep presenting a sold unit as available. Depending on demand and site policy, the URL can remain as a clearly sold archive with related active inventory, or redirect when an equivalent durable destination exists.

Avoid redirecting every sold vehicle to the homepage. That loses context and can create a poor shopper and search experience.
